Jakiya Whitfeld
Teenage sensation Jakiya Whitfeld made her World Sevens Series debut in December 2019 in Cape Town.
Dubbed ‘Winx’ by her teammates for her likeness to the champion racehorse, the 19-year-old speed-demon was picked following strong form for Sydney University. She won the 2018 AON Player of the Series and crossed the try-line ten times in the third round of the 2019 AON Uni 7s competition on her way to a gold medal.
Whitfeld also donned the green and gold for Australia in 2019, in the lower-graded Pacific Games, winning a silver medal.
Whitfeld is passionate about helping others and wants to use rugby as a tool to assist remote Indigenous communities. She enjoyed life on the road as a youngster, living in Darwin, Cairns and Fiji, which inspired her to help those experiencing hardships.
