Road to the Draft: Tyanna Smith
Tyanna Smith is set to be a top pick in the upcoming national draft. Nominated in the Melbourne zone, there are plenty of clubs circling the 17-year-old looking to add clean hands and elite ball use to their midfield.
Smith began her footballing journey at her local Auskick centre before joining Beaconsfield Junior Football Club in the under nines.
A clear talent from a young age, Smith was selected by the Dandenong Stingrays in 2016 as a 14-year-old.
She was a standout in the NAB League for the Stingrays over five years, coming second in the best and fairest in 2018, before winning the award and earning selection in the NAB League Team of the Year in 2019 as just one of four bottom agers. Smith was set for another strong season in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic reduced the season to only three games.
She was selected to represent Vic Country in the National Championships for the first time in the 2017 in the under 16s. She captained the side in 2018 before competing in the under 18s in 2019, earning All Australian selection after a series of standout performances.
