Magic Steph Thornton Enjoys Million Dollar Day

A rising star in thoroughbred racing, jockey Steph Thornton enjoyed her biggest day on the track at last Saturday’s Magic Millions on the Gold Coast. 

The Magic Millions has established itself as one of the richest and most renowned days on the Australian racing calendar, attracting the best jockeys from across Australia, with $10.25 million in prize money on offer across nine races. 

In only its second start, Thornton steered filly Queen of Wizardry to fourth in the $2 million 2YO Classic for NSW trainer Annabel Neasham and in addition to the prizemoney, claimed a $325,000 bonus for its all-female ownership group as part of the Magic Millions Racing Women’s incentive.

Steph finished her day with the biggest win of her career to date, winning the $1 million Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open Handicap aboard The Odyssey, a horse she has now partnered to 7 wins.
